New Triage System 3rd April
Posted or Updated on 26 Mar 2025
What is the new triage system?
The new system will enhance how we assess and prioritise patient requests, ensuring that urgent cases are dealt with quickly, while routine concerns are efficiently managed. When a patient contacts the practice, they will be asked to provide key information about their symptoms. This will allow our team to direct them to the most suitable clinician.
Why are we making this change?
We recognise that accessing GP services can sometimes be challenging, with long waits for appointments and increasing demand on the NHS. This triage system is designed to help us manage resources more effectively, reduce waiting times, and provide a better overall patient experience.
How will it work?
- Submit a request – Patients will complete a short online form or speak to a receptionist to provide details about their health concern.
- Triage assessment – Our clinical team will review the request and determine the most appropriate care option.
- Appointment or advice – Patients will receive guidance on the next steps, whether that’s a same-day appointment, a routine consultation or a referral to another service.
What are the benefits?
- Quicker access to the right care without unnecessary delays.
- Improved efficiency in handling patient requests.
- Better use of NHS resources, ensuring appointments are allocated appropriately.
